Struggles for control over land constitute a key element in the strategies for survival of tribal communities in MP. Estimates of total land alienated from tribals in India range between forty and fifty percent. Protective legislation to prevent land alienation and to restore alienated land exists in many states in India. The major struggle currently seems to be to amend existing laws which guarantee security of land tenures to tribal communities, under the influence of non-tribal groups.
Recognizing the crucial link between poverty reduction and access to justice, rights and entitlements, SRAA’s one of the senior advocate, journalist and social worker Shri Anil Garg empowers the poor and marginalized to demand and access entitlements and support justice delivery institutions to ensure the law works for the poor. To address challenges faced by institutions and individuals providing critical legal aid services to the marginalized women and men, SRAA is also supporting state legal service authorities through evidence based advocacy in improving access to services for poor.
